Trophée Ufolep Kart Aquitaine 2012 à Circuit de Magescq

The 5th race of the Trophée Ufolep Kart Aquitaine took place at Circuit de Magescq. The weather was nice and the practice went along without much problem.

On the race day during the chrono, Alvis was on pole for most of the laps only to lose it on the last lap by 8 thousand of a sec to his team mate Alexandre.

Starting the race on the front row next to Alexandre, he was ready to put on a good race.

However, it wasn't a good start for Alvis and he lost 2 places to 4th, and things got worse, he was pushed out of track on the 2nd lap on the 2nd corner. He was stucked in the gravels and was unable to return to the track. Only a lap later he was assisted by the photographer to get his kart back to the track and continue with the race. When asked what was on his mind when he was back to the race and he said 'I want to finish the race in the highest position possible.'

From first row to last row on the grid on prefinal, Alvis objective was to overtake as many as possible. He had a good start and gained 4 positions on the first lap. Moving up another 4 more positions to finish 5th for prefinal. To top it off, Alvis broke the track record of 58.4 sec with a new timing of 58.278 for his category.

A silent moment with his kart before the final. His target for this race was to get a trophy as a Mother's Day present. He really wished that he can do it together with his racing partner(his kart).

5th on the starting grid for the final, Alvis was determined to get on the podium. Knowing that he has the speed, his strategy was to stay calm and seize any opportunity to overtake. It was an exciting moment with the multiple exchanging of positions between 2nd to 7th until Alvis pulled away from the chasing pack.

Soon, Alvis was closing in on the leader on the last 4 laps. As he was near bumper to bumper, he launched an attack to overtake but was countered by Alexandre to regain his lead.

The attacking from Alvis and defending from Alexandre lasted for the remaining laps.  During the fighting for the lead, the chasing pack closes the gap on them. However, the experienced Alexandre defended his lead well from Alvis's attack and crosses the finishing line with Alvis following closely behind.

This is the first podium for Alvis in his first year in the Subaru Racing Kid category and it arrived just in time for Mother's Day present.

Well done for the happy little racer. His passion for racing can only grow stronger with each race regardless of results. It is the process of the racing that he enjoys and sought for. A happy racer will always enjoy a happy race process and in no time, happy results will come.

Trophée Ufolep Kart Aquitaine 2012 à Biganos

The second race of Trophée Ufolep Kart Aquitaine was held at Biganos on a mixed weather of sunny and heavy downpour.  Alvis and the rest of the jeune racers were even greeted with hailstones halfway through the race.

Alvis was very happy to see his friends and supporters come to see him race. It wasn't an ideal weather for the spectators but we were still very appreciative of their presents.

Alvis love to race in the rain though he find it difficult to push as hard as when it is dry. Especially when you can only use slick tires even on a wet track. However, it is still something that Alvis wanted to improve on.

Starting the pre-final from 4th on the exterior, he was partially 'forced' out to the gravel on the first corner. That cost him dropping 6 positions to 10th on the first lap.

During the race, Alvis was unlucky enough to have a nasty hit from behind. Even a full counter on the steering wheel wasn't enough to get the kart back on track and eventually spun and skidded out of the track and dropping another 5 places to 15th.

Starting from 15th on the final, Alvis put on a good fight to gain back 7 positions to finally finished 8th ending the race with a rather mixed feeling. Nevertheless, when it comes to racing, Alvis is all ready to face any situations.

Round 1: Trophée Ufolep Kart Aquitaine 2012 à Magescq

Press release of "Le Team Of Course" for Trophée Ufolep Kart Aquitaine 2012 at Circuit de Magescq. http://www.mondial-karting.com/article96/ofcourse1.pdf

It was a sunny but cooling Saturday morning and the free practice session went on with some setup to be done. Everything went on smoothly until towards the end of the day as I totally forgotten about the running in of a set of new tires to be prepared for next day race.

The Sunday race day started in the drizzling morning with one free practice session. The worry comes as Alvis has to use a new set of non run in tires on a wet track. True enough that Alvis was experiencing difficulties to find grip with the new set of tires on the track and in some instances, he nearly went off track.

As usual, a briefing for the racers before the start of qualifying session. As usual again, you will see that Alvis is the only Singaporean kid this year racing with the Trophée Ufolep Kart Aquitaine.

                                          A moment of thoughts...

Despite not having a set of run in tires, Alvis achieved 10th out of 16 racers during the qualifying session(chrono lap).

Below is the translation from the press release of Le Team Of Course for Trophée Ufolep Kart Aquitaine 2012 at Circuit de Magescq.

Behind, Alvis Ang is struggling. Fifth on the starting grid for the final, he suffered a hit from the back that resulted in a spin. When he recovered, he rejoined the race in 16th. He still managed to get back to 9th position but this performance is far below his expectations. He was the fastest in the pre-final with the fastest lap time.
